A Holiday Note

We are coming upon the holidays and bombarded by what to buy and what to eat and who to hang out with. We also put our dreams and goals on hold during December while we eat a lot, drink a lot, and wear stupid sweaters. The last thing that we want to do during the holidays is think about our waistlines, our hopes, our dreams etc….

After all, isn’t that what January is for? On January 1st, when we are all hung over and bloated, we realize things need to change. We unpack our dreams, our goals, our desire to lose 10lbs…and we feel ashamed.

Holidays are all about reflection, good food, good drinks and having an excellent time. But this time of year should not be about excess or going into debt because you want to make other people happy.

The holidays are a great time to get a jump start on everybody else that waits until mid-January to set up the next year. I’m not implying that you should lock yourself in your house, not hang out with your friends, or not go on a holiday trip with your family.  Instead, try going for a walk (maybe I shouldn’t give advice that I can’t take myself…oops!). Or take half an hour a day to plan what you want for next year. Or have a meeting with someone you would like to visit with next year. It does not have to be boring. It does not have to last a long time. Remember, a sacrifice is a payment for a dream. Why not pay for your dream a little bit sooner or work a little bit harder; instead of joining a gym in January, join one now…or take half an hour to read a book, and really get a head start on moving towards your dream.

I am in the middle of making a few changes to my business. I could of waited until January to make those changes but when I think about it, now is a better time for me. The reason is that the pressure is less overall because I have a lot more time to rethink what I’m doing. In January, there is more pressure because everybody is hustling and we live in a country where everybody is having New Year’s resolutions, etc.  Now is a good time to ease into the New Year with more energy, more focus and being in a better place physically, spiritually, financially and career wise.
