Emotional Discipline

A big part of mindset is emotional discipline. If mindset is the way we think about our lives, go after our goals, deal with challenges, deal with others, have clarity, and other factors, then having emotional discipline is a factor for amazing success.

In order to accomplish amazing success and have a good mindset, we need to take direct actions. We need the actions that get us to amazing success. A part of every decision we make is dictated by our emotions and feelings. Human beings are not rational, robotic decision makers. They are feeling machines.

Emotional discipline touches the five keys to an amazing mindset.

Rewriting Our Narrative

Part of our narrative is based on the way we feel about issues regarding where we are now and where we want to go. It takes emotional discipline to look at our narrative and see what parts need to change.  


No matter where you are in life, no matter how positive or negative, it takes emotional discipline to change or maintain your habits. It’s always going to be more satisfying to engage in negative habits than to engage in positive habits. If you have the habit of waking up early and going to the gym and you do this for 100 days in a row, on the 101st day, you may be tempted to hit the snooze button. If you ate a salad 20 days in a row, you may be tempted to order fries. If something goes wrong and it’s not your fault, it’s tempting to play the blame game and play the victim card.

No matter how positive our habits are, there are still some areas that we don’t feel like doing. Nobody was ever excited to call customer service, discipline their children, or do burpees. 

Deal With Challenges

Dealing with challenges is a mostly about being emotionally disciplined. When you are faced with a challenge, how you react is crucial. Having the right reaction and being thoughtful is crucial to amazing success. When we face a challenge, it’s easier just to blame others, outside factors, and proclaim that life is not fair. It takes emotional discipline to actually look at our challenges, understand them, and find a solution.

Deal With Others

There are a handful of people who can help us become amazing if we know how to engage them. When you deal with others, you are dealing with other feelings, mindsets, and opinions. We deal with people all day, and having the emotional discipline to deal with them in a positive way can be challenging. As we become more amazing, we have to engage with people in different ways. We have to be disciplined enough to create a win-win situation. Throughout our day, others might not behave the way we like or have different opinions. We must have the discipline to engage with them to get what we want.


Clarity is about knowing what we want, why we want it, and being clear about the next steps. If you want life to be amazing there will be times when you are going to be challenged. These challenges can cause overwhelm and confusion. It takes emotional discipline to really analyze your wants and your purpose.

 Having emotional discipline is at the heart of your amazing mindset. Everything that you do and every action that you take is fueled by your emotions and your feelings.



Having emotional discipline is key to amazing success. It will allow you to have the mindset needed to focus on and achieve your goals. Controlling your emotional reactions to habits and situations is imperative on the road to amazing.
