A critical part of amazing success is dealing with challenges or limitations without being totally consumed by them. Challenges should not be ignored and require the right amount of focus and attention. It is imperative to focus on dealing with your challenges, but not letting them consume you.
When I was 20, my disability started to consume me. Before I turned 20, my disability never seemed to get in the way. When I was growing up, all my peers needed help from their parents. They needed rides. They did not wander too far from home. After high school, people my age were moving out of their houses, going on trips without their parents, and going off to college. Shortly after my 20th birthday, my disability and my challenges consumed me. I would think about everything that my body would not allow me to do.I wondered what it be like to go off to college and everything my disability robbed me of. To say that I was focused on my disability, and everything that it prevented me from doing, was an understatement. I was downright consumed. Eleven months and hundreds of tears later, my friend called me to tell me how great college was. After that call, I decided to go to USC. In that moment, I decided to focus my attention on my goals. But, guess what? I was still disabled. The challenges were still there. I could not ignore them. What I had to do was focus and engage with them in a different way. I looked at my challenges more as a nuisance. By shifting my focus and engaging with my challenges in a different way, I made the impossible possible.
The reason why many people don’t go after their goals and their dreams is because they are focused on their challenges in the wrong way. They point to lack of time, lack of resources, fear, anxiety, lack of confidence, lack of ambition, and anything under the sun. These challenges are real, but they don’t need to stop you. These challenges need their own focus and attention, but should not be the primary central point. The heart of your focus should be on your goals. There will be delicate dance that you have to make on giving your challenges attention without being obsessive.
To live an amazing life, you have to focus on being amazing.
If it all too easy to allow challenges to stop you when on the road to amazing success. It is much less complicated to admit defeat than to figure out a way around obstacles. However, learning to deal with the negatives will make you stronger and more likely to achieve the success you’ve been dreaming of achieving.
