What Are You Focusing On?

Focus is a part of amazing success. If you go out to a restaurant with your loved ones and you are having a good time, you are laughing, enjoying a good meal. However, if the waiter is a little rude, or flippant, or just having a bad day, are you going to focus on the good food, the good company, and the great ambiance, or are you going to focus on the waiter’s negative behavior? You can take the example and extrapolate into any situation. Unfortunately, our brains are wired to focus on the negative. This wiring goes back to pre-historic times.

It’s easy to focus on the negative. It’s challenging to focus on the positive all the time.  With an abundance of information comes the abundance of negative information.  Now, more than ever, we are bombarded with messages about what we should do and who we should be. On the other side of the spectrum comes the abundance of messages that can empower us to be amazing. It is challenging to focus on the positive amongst the sea of negative.

There are many reasons to go after and fight for an amazing life. Equally, there are more reasons not to go after an amazing life. As an example, becoming an entrepreneur can be one of the most empowering things that one can do. However, there are statistics that tell us that most entrepreneurs fail. These stats as well as the enormous amount of responsibilities that comes with being an entrepreneur can overwhelm and cause anybody to take the safe route.  As a disabled person, it would be easy for me to give up and not fight to have an amazing life.  In order for me to become amazing, I have to deal with the minute by minute challenges that my disability presents.  Only after that can I begin my battle to be amazing.  Despite this, I choose to focus on becoming amazing.

To do this, challenges need not to be ignored. They need the right focus and attention to be navigated. A big part of my dance with my amazing life is to look at my physical challenges and my emotional challenges and deal with them in a way that allows me to accomplish my goals. A person with diabetes has to take time out of their regimen to monitor their blood sugar and take measures to deal with their ailment.

A component to focusing on amazing is to be grateful for the blessings in your life. Even though I deal with cerebral palsy, every day I’m grateful for the opportunities I have.

Focus takes work because our instinct is not to focus on amazing. Our focus naturally bends toward the negative, what we don’t have, who we are not, what other people have, and we don’t like, this list can be endless.

Part of an amazing life is focusing on your dreams, your hopes, and being truly amazing.

Summary:

It is important to focus on the positive when on the road to amazing. As humans, our tendencies are to focus more on the negative, which can hinder our experience when it comes to reaching our goals. Having a plan to make sure you are thinking positively while reaching your dreams will make you successful and happier.
