More About Challenges

blog Oct 10, 2018
Last week, I wrote a long post about the process of achieving your goals. I want to expound on the concept of your limitations. To recap, everybody has limitations that they assume only they have. Furthermore, they tell themselves that nobody will understand their limitations. In the past, I have looked around and saw that nobody around me is in a wheelchair or nobody around me needs as much assistance as I do. Technically, this is true. Technically, your limitations get in the way of what you want. A diabetic has to regulate their insulin. A working parent has to balance their professional and personal obligations. I have to balance the needs of my personal life with the challenges that I have to face minute-by-minute. Traditionally, it is taught that we have to ignore and focus on the possibilities. While you should focus on the possibilities, you should also focus on weaving in your challenges into the process. The irony is that, when you engage with your challenges in a positive...

The Process of Change

blog Oct 06, 2018
In order for your life to change or get better, you have to change and get better. When most people have new goals, want to accomplish more, take their life to a new level or make a powerful mindset shift, they want their life to shift. Most changes fall short because people don’t implement a process to make that transformation. Transformation is challenging and takes discipline and true commitment. You can’t talk about saving money and pull out your credit card to buy a Louis Vuitton purse. You can’t talk about losing weight when you are eating a cheesecake. One of the keys to achieving your goals is having your actions be congruent with your words. If they don’t line up, then you are a hypocrite. To be honest, everyone is a hypocrite at some point or another. We have all said that we want something, but our actions are not congruent with what we are saying. It’s important to take a look at our actions and our words and have them be aligned.

The Process of Mindset Shifts

blog Sep 28, 2018

For the last few weeks, I have been talking about the power of mindset shifts. I have mainly focused on the psychology of the process. Now, I want to talk about something else.

When you make a mindset shift your life actually becomes more challenging. If you decide to eat healthy, you must resist temptations, buy more expensive groceries. There are other mindset shifts where the process isn’t so clear. For example, if you want to open a company or decide to write a book, the path is not as obvious.

I was fortunate enough that my first mindset shift was really direct. All I had to do was convince myself that I could have assistants help me out with my daily routine. The rest of the process was pretty straight forward. I simply needed to apply, find financial aid, find people to help me and so on. At the time, I thought these steps were challenging, but, when I look back, I see that these were pretty straight forward.

As I got older, the challenges that I took on and the mindset...

The Emotions of Mindset Shifts

blog Sep 20, 2018
For the last few weeks, I have been describing the powerful effects of mindset shifts and how transformative they can be. Although a slight mindset shift can change your life, the follow through is more challenging. As soon as you make a mindset shift, a couple of things happen. First, your life becomes harder not easier. The second is that you have to deal with your subconscious, which will give you every reason why your mindset shift will not work. In addition, the people who you rely on for love and support might not embrace your epiphany.
.
Yes, your life will become harder.
.
As soon as you decide you want to lose weight, you have to find time to go to the gym. You probably have to go buy more expensive groceries. You have to avoid temptations at restaurants. When you are in a hurry, you can’t rely on fast food because there is nothing immediately available to eat.
.
As soon as I decided to go to USC, I had to figure out a slew of activities that had always been taken...

Mindset Shift Pitfalls

blog Sep 13, 2018
The last two weeks I have been blogging about the powerful mindset shifts and how important they are to transform your life. However, there are pitfalls that everybody experiences right after they make mindset shifts.
.
After we make a mindset shift, we expect everyone and everything to fall into place. When we decide to make a personal change, it does not mean that other people will also change. If we decide to eat healthier, part of us is hoping that nobody else eats cookies around us or all the billboards for fast food just disappear. This of course is not realistic.
.
I have attended many events where the speakers present ideas that can transform lives. Inevitably, the attendees will go home and be faced with… life. I have gone to writing events, speaking events, marketing events and others. Yet, experiencing a transformation takes discipline, hard work, getting over barriers and many more obstacles.
.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about my mindset shift that allowed me to...

These Are The Results

blog Sep 05, 2018
Last week, I wrote about the transformative moment when I decided to go to USC. As I write this, I am wearing a USC t-shirt and matching shorts. My dress is not usually this coordinated.
.
That one mind shift changed my life and my wardrobe forever. The fact is that a mind shift is not usually some life altering event. For me, it was just a buddy calling me and telling me about an amazing experience. It did not hurt that he described the girls on campus. Every time I feel discouraged, I think about how I thought I could never make that a reality.
.
It’s tough to quantify the impact of how that shift in thinking changed the trajectory of my life. The shift impacted my life in two ways. First, is the obvious. I made lifelong friends. I went to their weddings. We travel together. We watch football games together. We celebrate each other’s expanding families. One day, I called my friend to tell him that my wife was expecting. At the other end of the phone I heard a chuckle....

A Very Special Labor Day

blog Aug 30, 2018
Labor Day 1998 was one of the most life changing moments of my life, with ramifications that would last me a lifetime. This is the 20-year anniversary of that transformative moment.
.
So, what happened?
.
When I was in my teenage years, I did not really understand what it meant to be disabled. I assumed that if I worked then my life would not be that much different than any other adolescent. After all, most of my friends lived within five minutes of me, and I figured out how to keep up with them. My amazing parents did everything in their power to make sure that I was comfortable and happy. They provided me with a happy and comfortable life. They did not shield me from the world, but rather did everything in their power to include me.
.
This attitude lasted until I was 20, which was a little less than a year from that transformational moment – Labor Day 1998. When I turned 20, it was like somebody whispered to me: “You’re handicapped.” Before this, I shoved...

The Art of Re-Learning

blog Aug 23, 2018
I am an avid reader. I also take online classes, watch instructional videos on YouTube and attend conferences. I focus on two areas of learning. The first is personal development. Since I write, teach and coach on the area, I feel that it is my obligation to learn everything I can, as it helps me to look at different perspectives and disseminate my own information with more backing.
.
The second area is marketing. A big part of my business is the marketing of the products that are created. There are methodologies that I’ve adopted into my own quest to grow my company. These include landing pages, sales processes and many more integral parts of my business. Some are really technical. Some are tedious. And, some include many steps. I’m always researching different methodologies and making my process as efficient as possible. I work with a couple of experts who elevate my marketing beyond anything I can do on my own.
.
I have several books that I read over and over again...

Don’t Let Your Habits Become Suggestions

blog Aug 17, 2018
When people want more out of life, they set goals. For awhile, they may hit the gym or order salad. They may wake up a half hour earlier, communicate better or stop buying unnecessary stuff. Changing habits is an integral part of achieving success.
.
When we have goals, it’s exciting to think about all the possibilities that achieving will bring to our lives. We think about all that can happen or how our lives will be better. At least for a brief time, we don’t mind sacrificing for our goals. We don’t mind waking up earlier, working harder or eating that kale salad instead of the midnight snack. We might even convince ourselves that kale is good raw. Mmm… kale. I bet those combination of words rarely came out of people’s mouth.
.
As time goes on, however, that excitement wears off and that salad becomes a stupid kale salad. That work out that you were so excited about becomes the last thing that you want to do. Everything that excites you about your...

Are you obsessed?

blog Aug 09, 2018
Two years ago, I had an idea to develop products online. I wrote a plan and presented it to my team. I was aware of every single step; however, it took me three times longer to complete than I was planning. At the beginning of the year, I was on the last step, which was to generate online traffic. I knew that I wanted to outsource the task. Yet, I wanted to learn every aspect, so I could give my input.
.
I had a few stumbling blocks along the way. It took me longer to find a CRM Manager than I thought. I had a couple of people who did not perform; however, I felt that I was close to finding the right teammate.
.
A few weeks ago, I went to Vegas with the family and just had a great time. I took the kids to Circus Circus, had a wonderful date with my wife and snuck away to gamble and have a few cocktails.
.
When I got back, I was determined to find the right team member. The past was the past. I know that with the right team member, we can do amazing things. While I was gone, I had...
